About the Cyberdelic Hackathon Berlin: Synesthesia
The Cyberdelic Hackathon Berlin: Synesthesia was a groundbreaking 2-day immersive event that brought together developers, artists, musicians, designers, and innovators to co-create a multiplayer, synesthesia-inspired mixed-reality audio reactive tool using Unity.
Held on November 8-9, 2025, this hackathon represented a pioneering effort to bridge the gap between art and technology in the cyberdelic space.
The Vision
At its core, the hackathon aimed to prototype an open-source experience that seamlessly merges art and technology into a cyberdelic audioreactive tool, enhancing the depth of engagement and range of sensory experiences in audiovisual performances.
The event explored synesthesia as a framework for building new ways of experiencing digital art and sound, creating a platform accessible to both professional creators and bedroom creators just beginning their journey.
What We Built
Participants worked in cross-disciplinary teams to develop a dual-audience platform featuring audiovisual synchronization, physical instrument interaction, and multi-user participation capabilities.
The tool enables visual elements to react dynamically to external audio input, creating immersive experiences where playing physical instruments generates synchronized generative visual effects in mixed reality.
The Community
The hackathon attracted a diverse community of Unity experts, XR specialists, 3D modelers, electronic producers, sound designers, and neuroscience enthusiasts, all united by their curiosity about synesthesia and multisensory experiences.
Working in the iconic C-Base venue, teams collaborated intensively to create functioning prototypes, with 100% of code and assets uploaded to a shared open-source repository.
Impact
Beyond the immediate outputs, the Cyberdelic Hackathon Berlin: Synesthesia established a foundation for ongoing development and future cyberdelic hackathons around the world.
The event demonstrated the power of bringing together diverse disciplines to explore the intersection of consciousness, technology, and creativity, creating not just tools, but new possibilities for how we experience digital art and sound.
